Why Houston Homes Need an Outdoor Enclosure
In most of the country a water softener lives in a basement. Houston homes do not have basements, and a lot of newer builds across Katy, Cypress, Fulshear, and Tomball do not leave usable garage wall space either. That pushes the equipment outside, and outside in southeast Texas is hard on it.
- Heat and UV. Months of direct sun degrade plastic control heads, valve bodies, and bypass fittings faster than anything else in the system.
- Freeze events. Texas winters are mild until they are not. An exposed softener and its supply lines are the first things to freeze and crack.
- Rain, humidity, and lawn chemicals. Constant moisture works its way into electronics and connections that were never designed to sit in it.
- Appearance. Two tanks and a brine tank bolted to the side of the house is not what anyone pictured for their new build.
An enclosure solves all four at once, and it costs a great deal less than replacing a control valve that cooked in the sun for three summers.
Included With Our SENTINEL PRO and ELITE Packages
We build the weather enclosure into our SENTINEL PRO and SENTINEL ELITE packages for homes that need an outdoor installation. It is not a separate purchase and it is not an upsell we spring on you at the door — if your home needs an outside install, the enclosure is part of the job.
That also means it is installed by the same crew that installs the system, on the same day, sized and sited correctly the first time. No coordinating a second trade, no guessing whether the equipment will fit.
Specifications
- Exterior dimensions: 60" W × 29" D × 82" H
- Access: full double-door front opening for service and salt fills
- Capacity: houses a twin-tank system plus the brine tank together
- Service clearance: designed so annual maintenance and salt delivery happen without removing the unit
Our installers confirm placement, clearances, and drain routing during the in-home visit before anything is ordered.
Who This Is For
- New construction with no garage wall space — common in Bridgeland, Elyson, Sunterra, Marvida, and most newer Katy and Cypress communities
- Homes where the water line enters at an exterior wall, making an outdoor tie-in the practical option
- Garages the family actually parks in and does not want to give up three feet of wall to equipment
- HOA-sensitive neighborhoods where exposed equipment on a side elevation is a problem
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you sell the enclosure by itself?
No. The weather enclosure is included with our SENTINEL PRO and ELITE packages when a home requires an outdoor installation. We do not sell or ship enclosures as a standalone product.
Do you ship enclosures outside the Houston area?
We do not. United Water Softeners installs and services equipment throughout the greater Houston area only — Cypress, Katy, Fulshear, Tomball, Magnolia, Waller, Conroe, Montgomery, Humble, Spring, Brookshire, and the surrounding communities.
Does an enclosure make servicing the system harder?
No. The double-door design opens the full front of the unit, so filter changes, salt fills, and annual maintenance are handled exactly the way they would be in a garage.
Will an outdoor system still be protected in a hard freeze?
The enclosure removes direct exposure, which is the main risk. Our installers also address line insulation as part of an outdoor installation. If a hard freeze is forecast, call us and we will walk you through what to do.
Talk to Us About an Outdoor Installation
If your home has no good indoor spot for a softener, that is a normal situation here and we handle it constantly. We will look at the site, confirm what fits, and tell you honestly whether an outdoor install makes sense for your house.
