24-Hour Sulfur Smell Elimination
Eliminate the sulfur/rotten egg smell in hot water within 24 hours by neutralizing SRB (sulfur-reducing bacteria).
Stops Tank Corrosion
Provides permanent corrosion protection for the internal components of your water heater, extending its life expectancy and preventing leaks.
Reduces Limescale Accumulation
Reduces limescale accumulation, which improves water heater efficiency and reduces energy costs associated with heating water, as mineral residues are prevented from accumulating.
Fits any tanks and brands
Can be installed in electric, gas, solar, hybrid, indirect, and geothermal water heaters, from 10 to 120 gallons. Bradford White and Bedarus tanks have their own specific model.
Why Your Hot Water Smells Like Rotten Eggs
If your cold water smells fine but your hot water smells like sulfur, the problem is almost always inside the water heater itself. Sulfur-reducing bacteria (SRB) thrive in the warm tank environment and react with the standard magnesium anode rod that comes factory-installed in most water heaters. The byproduct is hydrogen sulfide gas — the rotten egg smell.
This is especially common in the Houston area on well water and in homes where the water heater sits unused for stretches, like second homes or guest bathrooms. Replacing the standard rod with a powered anode rod removes what the bacteria react with, which is why the smell clears within about 24 hours instead of returning after every flush.
How a Powered Anode Rod Is Different
A standard anode rod is sacrificial — it corrodes on purpose so the tank does not, and it needs replacing every few years. A powered anode rod protects the tank with a small electrical current instead of by dissolving. That means it does not feed sulfur bacteria, it does not wear away, and it provides permanent corrosion protection for the life of the heater.
Because mineral residues are no longer accumulating the same way, limescale buildup on the heating elements slows down as well — which keeps the heater running at its rated efficiency and trims the energy cost of heating water.
Will It Fit My Water Heater?
Powered anode rods can be installed in electric, gas, solar, hybrid, indirect, and geothermal water heaters from 10 to 120 gallons. Bradford White and Bedarus tanks use their own specific model, which we carry. If you are not sure what tank you have, tell us the brand and we will confirm fit before we come out.
Pairs Well With Whole-Home Treatment
A powered anode rod solves the smell at the tank. If your water is also hard, a whole-home softener protects the rest of the plumbing and every other appliance — the two together are why our SENTINEL packages exist. And if the sulfur smell is in your cold water too, the problem is your source water rather than the heater; that points to well water filtration instead.
Not sure which situation you have? Run the hot tap and the cold tap separately and smell each. Hot-only means the tank. Both means the water. Either way, we can test it and tell you plainly which fix you actually need.
