Your water softener stopped working. Maybe the water feels hard again, maybe the salt is not going down, maybe there is water on the garage floor. Whatever the symptom, you need someone out quickly who knows the equipment.
United Water Softeners repairs and services water treatment equipment throughout the greater Houston area — typically within 24 to 48 hours. We are a TCEQ-licensed WTS III water treatment company, and we service systems whether or not we installed them.
We Service Systems We Did Not Install
This is the question we get most, and the answer is yes. In most cases we can service and repair equipment from other manufacturers and other companies. If your original installer has gone out of business, stopped answering the phone, or simply cannot get to you, we can take over the system.
There are limits. Some proprietary equipment uses parts we cannot source, and occasionally a system is old enough that repair costs more than replacement. We will tell you that honestly rather than sell you a repair that does not make sense.
Common Water Softener Problems We Repair
Hard water is back
Soap will not lather, spots return on the glassware, skin feels dry again. Usually a control valve issue, a resin bed problem, or a system sitting in bypass.
The softener is not using salt
If the brine tank level has not dropped in weeks, the system is not regenerating. Common causes include a failed valve, a clogged injector, a brine line problem, or a salt bridge in the tank.
The system runs constantly or will not stop draining
A softener stuck in regeneration wastes water and salt continuously. Usually a control valve or timer fault, and worth addressing immediately because it adds up on a water bill fast.
Low water pressure through the house
Pressure drop after a softener often points to a fouled resin bed, a clogged filter, or a partially closed bypass valve.
Water on the floor around the equipment
Leaks at the valve head, the bypass, or the connections. Worth a same-week call before it reaches drywall or flooring.
Salty-tasting or discolored water
Usually a regeneration problem sending brine into the service line, or resin breaking down and passing into the plumbing.
Error codes or a blank display
Control head electronics, power supply, or a failed transformer. Often one of the less expensive repairs.
What to Expect
- Response within 24 to 48 hours in most cases across our service area
- A licensed company — TCEQ WTS III, not a general handyman
- A straight diagnosis, including when replacement makes more sense than repair
- One year warranty on repair labor
- Typically five year warranty on parts, depending on the component
Repair Services by System Type
We service every part of a whole-home water treatment setup:
- Water softener repair — control valves, resin beds, brine tanks, timers, and bypass assemblies
- Whole-home filtration repair — carbon and media systems, backwashing valves, and media replacement
- Reverse osmosis repair — membranes, filters, faucets, storage tanks, and drain connections
- Commercial water treatment service — restaurants, salons, medical offices, and light industrial
Maintenance Prevents Most Repairs
Most of the failures we see were preventable. Resin beds foul when they are never cleaned, valves seize when they never get serviced, and RO membranes fail when filters go unchanged for years. Our annual maintenance plans cover filters, servicing, water analysis, and salt, so the system gets looked at once a year instead of once it breaks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you repair water softeners you did not install?
Yes, in most cases. We service equipment from other manufacturers and other companies. Some proprietary systems use parts we cannot source, and we will tell you upfront if that applies to yours.
How fast can you get here?
Typically within 24 to 48 hours across our service area.
Is it worth repairing an old water softener?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. A control valve on an otherwise sound system is usually worth repairing. A system with a failed resin bed and a decade of hard use often is not. We will give you the honest comparison rather than defaulting to a replacement sale.
What warranty comes with a repair?
One year on labor. Parts typically carry a five year warranty, depending on the component.
Do you service commercial equipment?
Yes. See our commercial water treatment page.
